Obituary of Mary Filipponi

Florence: Mary Filipponi, age 97 of Florence, New Jersey entered her eternal life on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Ms. Filipponi was born in Florence to the late Giovanni (John) and Ester Altobelli Filipponi. She called Florence her home lifelong. Mary was a graduate of William MacFarland High School and Rider College. She retired from the US Army Base at Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1991 after 41 years of dedicated and exemplary service as a civilian employee. Mary also shared her time and talents with her community and her church. In 2021 she was recognized by Florence Township and presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in addition to many personal achievements for her professional successes. Mary's devout Catholic faith was paramount to her existence. Mary was a lifelong member of the Parish of St. Clare in Florence until the parish merged and then continued her dedication and faithful service to the Parish of Sts. Francis and Clare, now Mary Mother of the Church Parish. Ms. Filipponi was a member of the Francis W. Robbins American Legion Unit 194 in Florence, the Altar Rosary Society of the church and the Secular Order of Franciscans. Beside her parents Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Agnes, Pauline, Natalana, Donnie, Lena, Robert and Nicholas. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:30 AM at Holy Assumption Church, Roebling. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00AM until church departure at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Florence.
