Mansfield Township: William T. "Bill" Hurd, age 85 of Homestead at Mansfield departed this life on Thursday, October 7, 2021. Mr. Hurd was born in Philadelphia to the late William T. and Catherine O'Connor Hurd. He called the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia home before moving to Homestead at Mansfield 20 years ago. Mr. Hurd was a retired plant manager for Calbar in Philadelphia. Bill was a dedicated employee and mentor who will be affectionately remembered by his colleagues who loved and admired him as being the "Best Boss" ever. He was appreciated for his unique personality and creative sense of humor. Bill was a gifted softball player that earned him a position in the Philadelphia Softball Hall of Fame. In addition to playing softball, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Alice and was an ardent walker. However, his most pleasurable times were spent in the role of Pop Pop to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband and awesome father. Besides being predeceased by his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice P. Hurd and son, William Thomas "Billy" Hurd. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 67 years, Alice Amerman Hurd, his children and spouses, Thomas Hurd and Betty Ann Hurd, Karen A. Masi and Joseph Masi and Theresa L. Karcher and John Karcher, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services and final disposition will be held privately for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W.
