Obituary of Gary T. Carugno

Florence Township: Gary T. Carugno, age 63 of Florence, New Jersey passed away Thursday July 30, 2020. Mr. Carugno was born in Trenton, New Jersey and was the son of the late Joyce M. Shannon Carugno. He resided in Florence Township lifelong. Mr. Carugno was the proprietor of the Florence Hardware Store with more than 26 years of dedicated service before his retirement in 2006. Gary was a 1974 graduate of Florence Township Memorial High School and was member of the "Flashes" baseball team. He was a Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles sports aficionado, enjoyed his fishing excursions, camping adventures, family vacations, being a "Parrothead" at heart and developing an exclusive "grilling skill" that was like no other. Gary will be affectionately remembered for his love of animals, self-confident personality and his magnanimous gestures. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend. Gary was an inspiration to his sons instilling in them what it meant to be part of a true family and not hesitating to put others before oneself. Gary shared his athletic talents with his community coaching baseball and supporting his son's activities. Mr. Carugno was a member of Marconi Lodge, Florence, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karin L. Sandusky Carugno, his sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary K. and Megan Carugno and Zachary T. Carugno, his father, Raymond J. Carugno, his sister and her companion, Joyce A. Carugno and Michael Kuc, his sisters-in-law, Kym Sandusky and Kathy Sandusky Vannier,  numerous cherished relatives and friends and his feline bestie, Callie. A memorial service will be Tuesday 7:00 PM at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling, New Jersey. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Final disposition will be held privately. Social distancing and gathering restrictions will be in effect. All visitors will be required to wear a facial covering and immediately return to their vehicles and leave the premises to allow for additional visitors to pay their final respects. Gary's family is grateful for everyone's cooperation.
