Obituary of Marie D. Sager

Florence Township: Marie D. Sager, age 81 of Florence Township affectionately known as "Mom Sager" among the harness racing community passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at her home in the company of her loving family. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Marie, knew she was passionate about her family, intimate friends and of course her horses. She maintained her life following the philosophy instilled in her by her late husband Mel, who believed the horses always had to come first. Marie lived her life by example grooming her children to practice hard work ethics and always put others before self. Everyone in the horse racing community had the utmost respect for Marie and what she symbolized. Mrs. Sager was born in Trenton and was the daughter of the late Frank S. and Mary Pfeiffer Botlinger and resided in Florence Township lifelong. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband, Melvin "Mel" Sager and her brother, John Botlinger. Marie is survived by her children, Nieta and her husband Stephen Steele and Eddie Sager, her grandchildren, Taylor and her husband Ed Colligan, Stephanie and Danielle Sager, her great granddaughter, Everly Rose, her brother, Frank Botlinger and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be Monday 12:00 PM at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling, with Deacon Ronald Schwoebel officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Assumption Cemetery, Roebling. Social distancing and gathering restrictions will be in effect. All visitors will be required to wear a facial covering and immediately return to their vehicles and leave the premises to allow for additional visitors to pay their final respects during the visitation. Marie's family is grateful for everyone's cooperation.
