Obituary of John A. Karpac Jr.

Florence Township:  John A. Karpac Jr., age 97 of Florence Township died peacefully on Tuesday in the Masonic Village at Burlington in the company of his loving family. Mr. Karpac was born in Trenton and was the son of the late John and Anna Sabol Karpac. He resided in Florence Township lifelong. John was a dedicated employee for more than 36 years before retiring as a general foreman, for John A. Roebling & Sons C.F. &I. He served his country with honor in the US Army Air Corps, 720th Bomb Squadron in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement against the enemy and was a veteran of aerial warfare over some of the most highly defended targets in the world, seeing action in Munich, Vienna, Brenner Pas, Ora, Graz, Salzburg and Ferrara. John was a navigator with the 15th AAF B-24 liberator bomber group cited for outstanding performance of duty. His group received the distinguished unit citation for their heroic attack on the Regensburg-Prufening Aircraft Factory on February 25, 1945. John was a graduate of Bordentown High School and attended Navigation School at Selman Field in Monroe, Louisiana. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, "pop", great grandfather, brother and genuine friend. Mr. Karpac. was a member of Holy Assumption Church, the Holy Name Society of the church, serving as past president, Holy Assumption bingo chairman for more than 30 years, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, and the bar steward for Holy Assumption School catering, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and member of the Willitts Hogan Tonne American Legion Post 39, Roebling. John was predeceased by his wife, Katherine LaForsh Karpac, daughter-in-law, Theresa Karpac, granddaughter, Patricia Karpac and siblings, Joseph, Stephen, Emeric and Mary. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Karpac III and Robert and Wendy Karpac, grandchildren, Lisa Pfeiffer, Rene Slater, Tammy Karpac, Megan Pelizzoni, Kimberly Grigg, Morgan Komatick and Katherine Karpac, great grandchildren. Kelsey, Gina, Ryan, Matthew, Cassie, Brenna, Natalie, Benjamin, Clara, Hailey and Andrew, several nieces and nephews including Shirley Wargo and John Karpac.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 12:00 PM at Holy Assumption Church, 1290 Hornberger Ave., Roebling  with Rev. Martin O'Reilly officiating.  Friends may call Friday from 9:00 AM until church departure at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling.
