Obituary of Walter J. Porter

Fort Ashby WV, Walter J. Porter, age 85 of Fort Ashby, died Monday. He was born in Trenton on Christmas Day 1921, son of the late Harry and Eleanor Porter. Walter was a 1939 graduate of Trenton Central High School. During the Depression he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He worked as a truck driver and building maintenance for most of his employed life. After retirement he lived in North Wales, PA and then in 1998 he moved to Fort Ashby to be near to his daughter. Walter is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Judith and John Rosenbaum, Fort Ashby, WV, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Porter, Roebling and Jeffrey Porter, Oakland, CA, a sister June Britton, Hamilton, grandchildren, Tracy Karban, Hambden, OH, Christina Olex, Newton, MA, Nadia Porter, Parkville, MD, John Porter, Bloomington, IN, great grandchildren, Joshua, Madeline and Hailey and many nieces and nephews. Walter requested to be cremated. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 11 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 626 S. Olden Ave. Trenton. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may visit at the church Tuesday from 10 AM until time of Mass.
