Obituary of Jean D. Miller
Jean D. Miller
Oct. 25, 1923- Dec. 1, 2023
Jean passed away peacefully into God's loving arms on Dec. 1, surrounded by her devoted daughters and will be deeply missed. She was born at home on the farm to her parents William A. and Viola Smith Donald, on the Bustleton Rd in Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her 2 brothers, William A. Donald Jr., who worked the produce farm until the time of his death and Kenneth S. Donald, who was drafted into the Army serving in WW 2, (one of the first in Burlington County), and her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Harold "Bud" Miller, Jr.
Jean attended Stevens Station grammar school and graduated from Wilbur Watts High School, both in Burlington and then attended Rider College taking some business courses
Growing up, she worked during the summers at Whitesbog in Browns Mills packing blueberries, then went to work in the Roebling Steel Mill, in the Wire Mill office, later working in the Florence Twp. School system as a secretary.
Jean always enjoyed family trips down the shore while growing up. Then in 1946 while at the beach in Seaside Park, she met Bud and immediately stole his heart. They married on New Year's Eve 1947. They bought their house in Roebling from the Roebling Company where they remained and raised their 3 daughters: Doris (Ned) Burkhardt, Margo (Kevin) Mattis, and Tammy Miller, whom she is survived by, along with her 2 grandsons, Nicholas and Joseph DiGiacomo, niece, Debbie Donald O'Riordan and her granddog, Shadow Mattis.
Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, playing scrabble, Mexican train, playing word games on her tablet and watching The Young & The Restless. Jean was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39 in Roebling, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bordentown Chapter #257, and a lifelong member of the Providence Presbyterian Church in Bustleton (Florence Twp.)
